1954 The Romance of Mt.Fuji

The Romance of Mt. Fuji was on [Hong Wan Opera Troupe] performance agenda in January 1954, scripted by the famous Tong Dik Sang, it caused a big stir then with a fresh new trend having all actors dressed in kimono outfits and complimented by Japanese style props.

Starring Yambak, Leung Sing Po, Chan Kam Tong, Lang Chi Bak,Fong Wong Lui, Yam Bing Yee, Chan Ho Kao and  Li Hock Yau, this opera script was formulated by Yambak when they returned from their Japan tour the year before.

Photography was still very primitive more than half a century ago, photographs of this precious opera were extremely blurry and the color has faded, nevertheless, it is still a treasure to behold.

Fortunately the latest techniques coupled with professional expertise had them restored to acceptable standards.  Should we not count our blessings that Yam Jie's historic performances was captured in print ?

Accompanied by a synopsis (even the HK Film Archive does not possess) this album is an extinct treasure  to behold.
